I believe the best way to tackle ChatGPT in the education sector is to improve the way we train and assess students. Here are my thoughts. I would love to know your views on this.

And this is my first attempt at a video post 🙂

ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022. It has the capability of performing a vast majority of text-generating jobs, including those that demand the use of natural language for expression.

With the launch of ChatGPT, the education sector is talking about the risks of plagiarism, inadequate originality, and students’ over-reliance on AI. And if talking about the VET sector, the AI bots like ChatGPT will not impact VET as much as Higher Education, yet, in the short term, due to VET’s competency-based assessments. But this technology has the ability to contextualize, adapt and constantly learn which is nascent at this stage no doubt, will be evolved in no time. So its impact on the wider education sector is inevitable.

Plagiarism can be prevented by the use of anti-plagiarism training and software as well as through increased awareness of the issue among students but there needs to be a change in the way students are assessed. And with VET Qualifications Reforms underway, there is a possibility to improve the model in way that can reduce the possibility of plagiarism through AI (AIgirism).
